The DFG-funded Collaborative Research Centre “Inhibitory neurons: shaping the cortical code” (IN-CODE) is seeking highly motivated PhD students for Freiburg (5 positions) and Berlin (7 positions) to perform exciting projects in the field of Neuroscience.
IN-CODE is a new Collaborative Research Centre between the University of Freiburg, Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany. Our international teams will allow for collaborative work to obtain multidisciplinary insights into the role of inhibition in the control and encoding of information in local circuits and complex brain functions. Exploring the varied morphologies, properties, and connectivities of interneurons, and understanding their role in dynamically adapting the network to changing computational demands, we aim to uncover fundamental insights into how interneurons influence the shaping of cortical population codes.
Collaborations between the two cities are actively promoted. The selected PhD students will enroll in the local graduate schools, SGBM (Spemann graduate school of Biology and Medizine) and ECN (Einstein Center for Neurosciences), respectively, and will have access to the interdisciplinary qualification training offered by the entire network.
We offer:
- an outstanding scientific environment in the CRC/TRR 384
- an excellent supervision and career preparation program
- training in cutting-edge technologies and transferable skills
- a work contract with payment according to the German TV-L tarif system (E13)
Your profile:
- self-motivated and highly qualified student holding an MSc or equivalent (e.g. German diploma) in a relevant discipline
- we also welcome applicants from candidates who are about to complete their MSc
- drive to actively shape your own research project and career
