"Investigating concordance between preclinical multicenter confirmatory trials and systematic reviews in stroke (INFORM-Stroke)”

Abstract:
Translational failure and some of its drivers have been widely investigated in stroke research using systematic collation of available evidence from independent experiments. Systematic reviews have been paramount to investigate factors related to internal and external validity that potentially impact translational success. Lately, multilaboratory randomized trials have been proposed as a solution to mitigate these factors. To what extent evidence from multilaboratory trials relate to systematic reviews is currently unclear. In this project we compare results from the Stroke Preclinical Assessment Network (SPAN) to those derived from systematic reviews. In addition, we will investigate the effect of attrition of animals on effect estimates in meta-analyses and analyze the effect of methodological decisions made in meta-analyses on derived effect estimates. Here, we present the protocol as well as current progress and insights of this BMBF funded collaborative project.
